Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device

Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

The preview shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the insignia attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
