Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a challenging year, achieving just one win at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in particular - led to him exiting of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive victory over opponent Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's first title since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court since that period of the previous year.

Success also signifies Medvedev has secured twenty-one championships at 21 various events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to get a championship is particularly special," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his previous six finals, including in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's defensive play style and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his skill to compete at the top level was over.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and compete positively, supported by an better serving game.

The champion fought back from a break down in the first set against the difficult Moutet, taking 4 of the final five points to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden professional title, took control to force a decider.

He rescued 4 early break points in a tight final set before the champion won the break to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured victory with a point at the net, with his opponent failing to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
