“That was unfortunate. It was kind of an exchange with our fans out in front of us,” Jones stated during a radio appearance. “There was a swarm of Cowboys fans—not New York fans, Cowboys fans. The entire stadium was brimming with excitement for the Dallas team.”
He further emphasized that the gesture was completely accidental, occurring amid the elation following the team’s final touchdown. “I simply put up the wrong digit,” he remarked. “It was accidentally done. I’m not kidding. Should you call it unplanned, you can. But it got resolved pretty quick.”

This is not the initial instance an league proprietor has been penalized for inappropriate behavior. Previous cases include:
- Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper was penalized $300K for throwing a drink at spectators in January 2024.
- Then Tennessee Titans proprietor Adams received a $250,000 fine in 2009 for a similar offensive signal.
Jones, a figure who is recognized for his media savvy, reportedly has an estimated wealth of $16 billion, making the fine easily payable for the wealthy owner.
